We, Jasmine and Ris, are the farm duo behind Open Air Farms. From a love of the outdoors and sharing delicious meals with friends, we became farmers!

In 2020, while working our full-time jobs we started our journey into farming by leasing land to grow in Detroit. We worked to become vendors at the historical Eastern Market, grew a small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), and on occasion served restaurants. It was a lot and WE LOVED IT.

Before farming we had gotten into camping and for few years started spending more time in the Traverse City area (Leelanau State Park is our all time favorite). Like many that visit this beautiful place, a seed was planted and we found ourselves dreaming of an Up North space to enjoy with our friends and family year-round. Open Air Farms made this dream come true!

In 2022, we became stewards of 20 acres in the heart of Leelanau County, nestled amongst other farms and vineyards, and neighboring the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Since then we have been working to relocate our farm (and lives) to Cedar, MI. And we are starting from scratch which has meant digging a well, breaking ground for growing spaces, improving soil health, and building infrastructure - including a tiny farm cabin.

2024 is our first growing season in Leelanau County!
